A friend has made a list of good online (tv-)documentaries.

In response to this I've compiled a list of (good?) offline documentaries. I've got most so if you want to borrow it, just give me a shout. And of course I am more then happy to hear your suggestions.

  • Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land (2004)

  • An Inconvenient Truth (2006)
    A documentary on Al Gore's campaign to make the issue of global warming a recognized problem worldwide.
  • The Century of the Self (2002, BBC)
    Traces the tremendous influence of Freudian ideas and the family Freud - Siggie, Anna, and nephew Edward Bernays - on the development contemporary capitalist societies. Bernays was a specialist in propaganda (now called Public Relations).
  • The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear (2004, BBC)
    A series of three documentaries about the use of fear for political gain. Where did Osama Bin Laden come from, and why does he hate the American way of life? Why do the American neo-conservatists want the public to believe in a world wide conspiracy of evil, operating from vast underground complexes that look like a James Bond film set? In a world that has just witnessed the worst natural disaster in known history, why are our nightmares filled with images of bearded men and dirty bombs? This three-part documentary gives the answers. In a cool, factual manner, it goes back to the historic roots of both sides in this lukewarm war, and shows us how eerily similar they are. That is what is really scary about the war on terrorism.

    An irreverent look at obesity in America and one of its sources - fast food corporations.
  • The Yes Men (2003)
    Anti-corporate activists travel from conference to conference, impersonating member of the World Trade Organization.
  • The Corporation (2003)
    3 part mini-series that looks at the concept of the corporation throughout recent history up to its present-day dominance.
